It seems that the theme to every news story regarding the housing market is as grisly as a slasher film. Luckily, one indicator suggests an improving outlook. As reported by Dawn Killough in an article for Green Building Elements, Green Home Sales Increasing Despite Economy, third-party certified green homes comprised one-quarter of all new homes sold during 2009 and 2010. This represents an increase from 17 percent and 14 percent in 2008 and 2007 respectively. In addition, green certification such as Earth Advantage, Energy Star or LEED for Homes, contributed a 17 percent premium to home value compared to an equivalent, non-certified home.
